How we chose

Why we stock Torriden

The most boring brand in the catalogue, and why that is the compliment it sounds like.

Routinae sells some of the products written about here, so read this the way you would read any shop’s opinion of its own shelves. Where we think a cheaper product does the same job we say so, and where the evidence is thin we say that too. Our buying standard is published so you can check the argument against it.

Torriden makes unexciting products. Nothing is 77% of anything, nothing is fermented for a hundred days, and the packaging will not photograph well. We stock two of them and recommend them more often than anything else here.

What we kept

Dive-In Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Serum. The most reliable hydrating serum we have tested. Fragrance-free, weightless, and - the part that matters and never gets mentioned - it does not pill under sunscreen. A serum that pills is a serum you stop using by week three.

Dive-In Soothing Cream. Light enough for oily skin, sufficient for most dry skin, fragrance-free. It suits nearly everyone, which is exactly why it is the cream we suggest first when we do not yet know someone's skin.

What the evidence actually supports

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant. It holds water at the surface. That is well understood and genuinely useful for dehydrated skin - and it is also the ceiling. It will not repair a damaged barrier, and applied to dry skin in dry air without something over the top it can leave skin feeling tighter, not less.

So the instruction matters more than the ingredient: damp skin, then a cream on top. We put that on the product page because a serum used wrongly is a serum that gets blamed.

What we cannot verify yet

The same gap as everywhere: we do not yet hold a CPNP reference and named EU Responsible Person for these exact products from a supplier. That paperwork is being collected. Nothing goes on sale before it arrives.

Who should skip this brand

If your skin is reactive or stinging rather than merely dry, hydration is not your problem and this is not your fix - a barrier is not repaired with water. Start with something calming and come back to this once things settle.

If you are very dry in a Dutch winter, the Soothing Cream may not be enough on its own. And if you already have a fragrance-free hydrating serum you like, there is nothing here worth switching for. We would rather say that than sell you a fourth serum.

Think we have got this wrong? Tell us — being corrected in public is the price of publishing your own rules, and it is a fair one.
